3 Things No One Tells You about PregnancyUncategorized
Having a baby is one of the most beautiful things a person can do, but it can be something of a mystery for those who are experiencing it for the first time. Here at John A. White M.D. Obstetrics and Gynecology, we want to help dispel some of that mystery. There are 3 things that you will want to know that most people won't tell you.
1. Round Ligament Pain Is Real
There is a very common issue called round ligament pain. Despite how common this issue is, very few first-time pregnant women know about this. It is a non-threatening stretching of the muscles and ligaments around your expanding belly. It is painful, and usually hits on the lower right side. If you feel this, you need to know you are not dying or losing the baby. Your body is simply stretching to accommodate the new needs.
2. Pregnancy Glow Is a Real Thing
A lot of people think that the iconic compliment about pregnant women glowing is just something nice to say. It's not. When you are pregnant, you will get 50% more blood in your body to help create and nurture your baby. This will manifest itself in a nice glow in your skin.
3. Eating for 2 Is a Myth
Being pregnant does not really necessitate you doubling your food intake. Your baby is tiny, especially at the beginning of the pregnancy. As your baby grows, you will actually have less capacity to eat as it will push on your stomach and reduce the space there. You only need about 300 extra calories each day to keep you and your baby healthy.
