How Pregnancy Can Affect Your FeetUncategorized
Pregnancy can do a lot of strange things to your body. It will change a lot to accommodate the new little life you are growing. Here at John A. White MD Obstetrics & Gynecology, we have seen it all. The most interesting changes you might see will happen to your feet. The following is a list of some of the things pregnancy could do to your feet:
- Swelling: Edema is a very natural part of pregnancy. In many cases, the swelling will concentrate around the feet and ankles as this is the lower-most part of your body. In most cases, mild swelling is normal and not at all dangerous. If, however, the swelling is extreme and comes on all at once, then you will want to call our office and make an appointment to check your blood pressure.
- Numbness: Nerve issues in the lower body are common with pregnancy, and this can lead to numbness in some of your extremities. Your feet could very well feel numb or tingly. This is normal, and can be helped by stretching and drinking more water.
- Redness: Your body will have 50% more blood when you are pregnant. This can cause your feet to sometimes look red. Unless the redness is accompanied by pain, then there is no reason to worry about this.
- Itching: The final thing that might happen to your feet during pregnancy is some strange itching sensations. This is probably due to to the increased blood flow and the stretching skin.
